Membership Criteria

An Active Member is any person who, at the time of applying for membership in the Society, is employed as a general manager, chief operating officer, chief executive officer or senior manager of a club or similar association, or an individual who is employed in a senior management position, which reports directly to the person holding the aforementioned position. Active Members are entitled to vote at all Society or Branch meetings and are eligible to hold office as a director or officer of the Society or any Branch.

An Associate Member is an individual who is an employee of a club or similar association and is employed in a management position at a club where there is at least one Active Member in a senior management position.

Branch Events

An Alumni Member is any person who has been an Active Member for five years, has attained the age of 55 and has retired from active employment as a club or similar association manager.

Alumni Members are not entitled to vote at any meetings of the members of the Society or the Branch nor are they eligible to hold office as a director or officer of the Society or any Branch.

There is no application form associated with Alumni Membership. Please contact the National Office if you believe you qualify and would like to change your membership status.

The Colleague membership category is available to CSCM members who:

• are either Active Members or Inactive members;
• have been registered as an Active Member for at least a total of five consecutive years;
• are no longer working in the Club industry. Members are only eligible to qualify for this membership for one term with a maximum of two years.

Colleague members are non-voting and are not eligible to hold office as a director or officer of the Society or Branch.

A Faculty Member is any person who is a faculty member of a hospitality program at an accredited, post-secondary college or university.

Faculty Members are not entitled to vote at any meetings of the members of the Society or the Branch, nor are they eligible to hold office as a director or officer of the Society or any Branch.

Categories

Honourary Life Member

In appointing an Active Member as an Honourary Life Member, the awards committee and the Board of Directors shall consider the following criteria:

• the person has been an Active Member, in good standing for a minimum of twenty years;
• the person has obtained the designation of either Fellow of Professional Club Management (FPCM) or Certified Club Manager (CCM); and
• the person has served the Society at the national level or has rendered distinguished service and/or has made outstanding contributions to club management above and beyond those normally expected of an Active Member or a director of the Society or Branch.

Honourary Life Members shall be entitled to vote at all meetings of the members of the Society or Branch.

Honourary Life Members are eligible to hold office as a director or officer of the Society or Branch.

Honourary Life Members shall pay 0% of the National Dues and 0% of the applicable Branch Dues.

Honourary Life Members shall be entitled to access all of the CSCM member services.

Honourary Branch Member

In appointing a Honourary Branch Member, the CSCM Branch shall consider the following criteria:

• the person has been an Active Member, in good standing for a minimum of twenty years;
• the person has obtained the designation of either Fellow of Professional Club Management (FPCM) or Certified Club Manager (CCM);
• the person has served on the board of directors of the Branch; and
• the person has served the Branch or has rendered distinguished service and/or has made outstanding contributions to club management above and beyond those normally expected of an member or a director of the Society or Branch.

Honourary Branch Members shall be entitled to vote at all meetings of the members of the Society and the Branch.

Honourary Branch Members are eligible to hold office as a director or officer of the Society or Branch.

On behalf of Honourary Branch Members, Branches shall pay 100% of the National Dues and 0% Branch Dues.

To determine the fees for Honourary Branch Membership, please refer to the CSCM Dues Chart. Honourary Branch Members shall be entitled to access all of the CSCM member services.

There is no application associated with Honourary Membership as it is determined on a nomination basis only. Please contact the National Office should you wish further details.

An Inactive Member is a person who is a former Active or Associate Member and is unemployed and seeking re-employment in the club industry for a maximum of two years.

Inactive Members are not entitled to vote at any meetings of the members of the Society or a Branch, nor are they entitled to hold office as a director or officer of the Society or any Branch.

An Inactive Member who becomes employed in the club industry shall immediately and automatically be transferred to Active or Associate Member status, provided that he or she is so qualified. Membership dues will not be payable until the next membership year.

Inactive Members are not required to pay any dues at this time. For more information on fees associated with membership, please refer to the CSCM Dues Chart.

An International Membership is any person who is an employee of a club or similar association operating outside of Canada.

International Members are not affiliated with a Branch, but are entitled to vote at meetings of the members of the Society.

International Members are not eligible to hold office as a director or officer of the Society.

A Student Member is any person who is enrolled as a post-secondary student in a recognized hospitality, culinary, turf management, golf operations, or sports program in an accredited, post-secondary college or university, and who are not employed in a club management position on a full-time basis.

Student Members are not entitled to vote at any meetings of the members of the Society or the Branch nor are they eligible to hold office as a director or officer of the Society or any Branch.

A Student Member may maintain their student membership status for a full calendar year after their graduation.

A complimentary Student Membership is awarded each year to winners of the Val Mason Scholarship.

CSCM is pleased to offer managers of small private clubs an annual membership rate of 50% of annual dues for Active members and Associate members (plus branch dues and tax) to join the CSCM. You can review the rate chart for further information.

Criterion

• Eligible small private clubs are those with annual revenues under $2M. Evidence must be provided and will be requested every 2 years.
• The most senior manager of the club must join as an Active Member and there must be at least one active member at the club.

Active Small Club members would receive the same benefits as Active members.

Associate Small Club members would receive the same benefits as Associate members.

CSCM is pleased to launch a Multi-Member Program to provide an opportunity for more Active members and Associate members to join the CSCM for a reduced fee.

What is the Program?

The Multi-Member Program is designed for clubs who wish to support more managers, supervisors and staff at their clubs with membership in CSCM. For a 50% discount off both the National and the Branch fees, additional employees of the same club can join as either an Active Member or as an Associate Member provided there already exists a combined total of three CSCM Active or Associate members at that club (same club address required). In essence, provided you qualify, a fourth or more club employee may join CSCM as Active or Associate at a 50% discount. The discount offered in this program cannot be combined with any additional discount offered through CSCM.

Why you should consider the Program?

Many CSCM Active Members have expressed a desire to support more of their staff with membership in CSCM; however, budget limitations are often cited as a key challenge in this regard. We hope this program will help alleviate some of those challenges you face.
