About CMAC

The Club Management Association of Canada is the national professional association for individuals involved in the club management profession in Canada. Since 1957, the association has been supporting members with education, certification, networking and member events to facilitate them being the best in the industry. Members include general managers, chief operating officers, assistant general managers, clubhouse managers, golf superintendents, chefs, controllers, food and beverage supervisors, golf professionals, as well as students interested in pursuing a career in club management. CMAC professionals work at private, semi-private and public golf clubs, country clubs, city clubs, faculty clubs and recreation and leisure clubs.

The association’s mission is to promote and develop the profession of club management via the Certified Club Manager (CCM) designation while providing education to members, including career and networking opportunities. In 2022, CMAC launched a revised membership model, welcoming over 100 new members to the association.

Position Overview

The Business Development Manager will work on a variety of projects and strategic initiatives, with a focus on engaging with key stakeholders: members, volunteers, branches and sponsors. The individual will work with the CEO and Director, Professional Development to develop and build key industry relationships and source additional CMAC non-dues revenue.


Business Development/Marketing
• Design membership acquisition strategies
• Research non-members clubs across Canada; discover, qualify and engage leads; develop robust sales trips for the CEO and/or president
• Create an annual member satisfaction/exit survey process (and RFP) in conjunction with the Membership Committee to ensure we continue to satisfy member needs
• Research, create and arrange additional member benefits for CMAC by working with industry vendors

Branch Relations
• Work with CMAC Branches to understand their needs and advise the CEO/Director, Professional Development on how they could be met

• Create relationships with like-minded organizations to augment the education offering to CMAC members
• Liaise with Branch leadership to share best practices amongst Branches

Sponsorship/Trade Shows
• Develop, foster, and maintain ongoing relationships with sponsors and/or prospective sponsors, reporting to the CEO; ensuring that sponsorship deliverables are provided
• Solicit and engage national and/or regional sponsors, ideally into multi-year agreements
• Facilitate the development of a trade show component of the national conferences
• Manage trade show exhibitor sales to industry suppliers
• Exhibitor services for the national conferences
• Work with the CMAC event team to develop the sponsorship prospectus for large events

• Conduct research on potential strategic initiatives as directed by the CEO
• Work with the CEO/Director, Professional Development on special projects as required


• Minimum five years’ experience working with an association and/or learning institution in the area of sales, business development, membership or marketing
• Strong sales and relationship management skills
• University degree or college diploma in general arts, hospitality, communications or business
• Understanding of the hospitality and/or club management industry considered an asset
• Exceptional organizational abilities and time management skills
• Top-notch project management skills, including planning, implementation and evaluation
• Excellent marketing and communications skills (written and oral)
• Strong interpersonal skills that include listening, responsiveness and a professional, customer-service oriented approach to all situations
• Bilingual in English and French is considered an asset
• Flexibility to work overtime when required and travel for off-site conferences/events

The current employment scenario is hybrid with the option of either working from home or the Etobicoke office. Preference will be given to local candidates, although applicants from other jurisdictions will be considered.
