2017 Pre-National Conference CMI Course
Putting Strategy to Work in Private Clubs

This CMI workshop is dedicated to strategic planning theory and application. There will be lecture focused on: (a) strategic planning and how to use it, (b) differentiating strategy from tactics, (c) skills needed to be “strategic”, (d) branding and strategy, and (e) strategic leadership in private clubs.

Group discussions will focus on (1) identifying trends unique to the clubs represented, (2) applying trends to the trend-line, (3) anticipating what trends will emerge next, and (4) identifying where to research emerging trends.

As a result of participating in this program, participants will be able to:

  1. Differentiate strategy from tactics
  2. Develop club-specific tools for evaluating strategic progress
  3. Analyze key influences and inhibitors for effective strategic planning at your club 

Presented by:

Henry DeLozier is a Principal and Partner at Global Golf Advisors, an international consulting firm based in Toronto. Highly experienced in guiding private club directors and leaders in matters impacting private clubs in North America, he is frequently called upon for Board facilitation and training in matters of strategic thinking and forward planning.

Having managed operations for private clubs, destination resorts and a portfolio of privately owned clubs, Henry brings broad and deep understanding of the variety of strategic and tactical necessities that challenge leaders of clubs of all types. In addition to board and club-leadership coaching, he is a regular contributor to Club Director from the National Club Association, and BoardRoom magazine. He understands how clubs work and don’t work and translates that understanding into insight, enlightenment and understanding that leads to improved results.

Honoured by BoardRoom magazine with its 2015 Lifetime Achievement Award, Henry has been recognized each year as one the “Most Influential People in Golf” since 1999 by Crittenden publications for his worldwide recognition in thought. He is a past president of the National Golf Course Owners Association (US) as well as an NGCOA director for ten years’ time. He serves on the PGA of America Employers Advisory Council.
